Messaging Platform
Overview
The Sawtel Voice Messaging service is a turnkey, software-based voice messaging
solution for SIP-enabled, VoIP broadband networks. Linked to any SIP-enabled
broadband telephony service, Sawtel Hosted Voice Messaging takes voice messages
when subscribers are not available to take a call. Subscribers can retrieve their
messages using an integrated web portal or via a subscriber-specified email account.
When web access is unavailable, subscribers can access their voice mailbox from any
telephone using DTMF voice menus. This voice user interface is modeled after the
work of the Voice Mail User Interface Forum (VMUIF) now standardized as ISO/IEC
1374, offering subscribers’ unparalleled ease of use, proven by millions of users on
legacy voice mail platforms.
The Sawtel hosted Voice messaging solution offers service providers a number of important advantages:
- Built on Open Standards
Sawtel Voice Messaging leverages existing industry standards, including SIP protocol, VMUIF-based user interface standards, XML-based service description, and IMAP4 email protocol - to deliver an open solution that addresses the most stringent voice messaging needs in VoIP networks. The hosted architecture promotes ease of integration with existing IP voice services or other Sawtel services. - Flexible, Scalable Message Store
The IMAP4 voice message store provides a scalable, standardized approach to message store and access. Voice messages can be stored in standard 16Kbps PCM format, enabling messages to be accessed via email. Alternative IMAP4 message stores can be used where customers already have a legacy email system. - Feature-rich Message Access, Retrieval, and Notification
Subscribers enjoy full control over the service via both Web interface and IVR menus. This includes comprehensive message playback and control operations that allow subscribers to skip through audio for fast message review. Subscribers can set up email notification when a new voice message arrives. This offers the flexibility to receive notifications on mobile phones when subscribers are away from their office or home. - Dynamic Mailbox Creation*
Mailboxes are created on first use by a subscriber. This gives service providers the flexibility to under-provision licensed mailboxes based on anticipated usage, so that a mailbox is not needed for every VoIP subscriber, driving significant cost savings. Subscribers save time, because they are not forced to initialize a mailbox when they don’t intend to use voice messaging with a VoIP service. - Easy Integration with other SIP-based Services
Sawtel Hosted Voice Messaging ties into other SIP-based IP voice services easily. This gives service providers the option to add voice messaging capabilities to all types of IP voice services, such as audio conferencing, calling card, operator assistance, in addition to broadband telephony.
